NETS- T1 Continued...

According to National Educational Technology Standards, teachers should model collaborative knowledge of construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments. Focusing on the "students" part of this indicator, I think it is very important that my students are involved in group work and collaborative thinking in my classroom. One of the things I strive to do the most in my Math class is to create an atmosphere of openness and facilitate and stress the importance of working together.

Similar to Kelly, one of the ways that I have found to do this is to play games- even if that means doing problems on dry erase boards with a partner instead of simply completing a worksheet. I think students automatically take on a sense of ownership when their schoolwork becomes a competition. Mathematics at pppst.com is a website that I use very often when planning lessons and units. It contains all kinds of premade lessons and activites on power point. PowerPoint Games is another website that I found this week, and it has all kinds of templates to make your own games. Check it out! There are templates for Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, and a few others. I think this would be really neat to use in ANY subject.

I have also been thinking more this week about what I want to do my project on, and I think I have changed my mind AGAIN! I am thinking of having the kids plan their own vacation and giving them a budget to work with. This is a great video that I found on You Tube that I could show the students before we start the project.

Take a look! Yay! I embedded a video!!
That's all I have.

  2. I agree with Kelly, nice job embedding the video!

Google is an excellent source of many collaborative tools. Google apps are internet based programs. Running applications online is known as "cloud computing". Follow the link below for more Google Apps.

  5. Ahhhhh, the power of competition! Students love it, don't they?

I've been focusing on creating blogs/wikis for my honors English students. But I also want to incorporate other technology in the classroom (I mean, I've been known, rather recently, to use an overhead now and then! Yeesh!)

I love the PowerPoint games! I've never seen this before! Brilliant!

Gosh, who knew I could learn something from a MATH person?! Ha ha! :)
